Wow! So much wisdom here… all of this is so true! I especially like this part: “When we write about evil, we can describe it discreetly. Otherwise, if we go into explicit detail, we give evil a platform to grow on. …We need to guard our purity and the purity of others by not promoting evil through too much detail.”

I can relate to this mostly in relation to my speech. I’m a youth leader to young teens and being young myself (almost 19) I find that so often they want to know what I was like before I was saved. I have no problem letting them know that I was deeply trapped in sin but I refrain from all the details simply because I don’t feel that it is always necessary. I believe that a day will come when God will call me to speak specifically about the particular sin that held me so deeply in bondage privately to one of my youth group kids who perhaps are struggling with this same sin themselves… but until that day I will refrain from the details.

I do not tell them for fear that they will think, “woah, you did that and you’re all “good” now so I can do that and become a Christian later…” I said all of this to say that I totally understand what you mean about “giving evil a platform to grow”

Felicia, Great article! It really hit home for me a 40 something, divorced and dating woman. I recently attended a single woman’s workshop sponsored by a local group dedicated to helping Christians date with biblical truths and that is one of the points they teach is to view the other person as your brother/sister in Christ. It is challenging to change habits in relating to the opposite sex, even when what was done in the past didn’t turn out well. I thank you for your wisdom in a time of personal growth. Praise God for your obedience to provide alternative thinking to the worlds view.

Hey Felicia! I just saw your blog because of a mutual friend and realized I know you! I used to go to “park day” with your family and was friends with your brother. It’s awesome to see that you’re doing so well!
